WEAVING WELLNESS INTO YOUR WORKPLACE

Weight Watchers will work with you to develop a workplace wellness initiative – one that will fit your budget and one that will reap results for your employees committed to losing and maintaining a healthier weight.
A corporate weight-management program makes good business sense. Even if you’ve been there and done that in the past without much sustained success, you will want to revisit your approach. A corporate solution is now easier than you think.
First assess your workforce’s needs and interests and play to those strengths. If you choose a proven program that follows the Institute of Medicine’s guidelines, you are virtually assured short-term success and long-term gain (well, loss!) over health care costs. Key decision makers should include all the stakeholders within your company who can come together to assess your company’s demographics, health claims data, and benefits plan.
Items to review include these:
- The number of employees onsite and in remote locations (assume that, like the general population, about two-thirds are overweight or obese).
- Claims data related to weight issues (heart, diabetes, musculoskeletal issues, for example).
- Pharmacy benefits (especially medications related to weight issues, such as oral insulin).
- Dependents and retirees on your health plan (include them or not in your weight-management programs).
- Availability of onsite support facilities such as meeting rooms, cafeteria vendors, and fitness center if you want to bring Weight Watchers directly to your worksite. If you choose to offer the benefits of Weight Watchers to your employees, but opt to have them attend community meetings, we will work with you to make sure they know what is in it for them and where they can attend meetings to reap long and short-term benefits.
- Benefits plan provisions or revisions to support weight loss such as medical savings accounts, rebates and incentives. You could agree to underwrite all, none or a portion of the cost for employees (and/or dependents and retirees) to attend Weight Watchers meeting. Whatever you decide, we can work with you to promote the Weight Watchers program to your employees.
In addition to offering a proven scientifically-based program, Weight Watchers will:
- Help you market the initiative to your workforce. This could include flyers, payroll mailers, quarterly shipment of THINLINE, informational materials and even a special webpage just for your company.
- Communicate our partnership with our highly-trained staff so that registration is seamless whether your employees are attending community meetings or onsite meetings.
- Publicize your proactive and bold initiative as a responsible employer to local and regional media outlets, including Weight Watchers THINLINE (circulation 250,000 Michigan and Ontario).
- Offer your participating employees special incentives that will further motivate them to reach their weight management goals, including a weekly email from Florine Mark.
Our "partners" position themselves and "walk the walk" by:
- Helping their workforce become healthier.
- Helping their own financial bottom line in terms of healthcare costs, productivity, and employee absenteeism.
- Offering employees a simple, effective and highly valuable benefit.
- Providing a direction connection to the needs and wants of your workforce.
